Erlebnisbeschreibung

This bike tour is the right choice for every Frankfurt-Lover and for every first-time visitor. All the famous sights (Römer, New Old Town, European Central Bank, Goethehaus) combined with the insider tips are a truly guarantor for that. At one of our daily offered tours, selected and qualified guides will show you the most beautiful parts of Frankfurt. At the end of the tour, your guide will show you some traditional Frankfurter Apfelwein restaurants!Your tour starts in the midst of Sachsenhausen, one of the most popular quarters of the city. Many old buildings from the late 19th century characterize the face of this quarter with its numerous trendy bars, cozy cafés and a wide range of restaurants as well as traditional Apfelweingaststätte. Here, in a rustic ambience, traditional fare is served. The “Stöffsche” is one of the must-trys in one of these Apfelweingaststätten. In the 19th century, Sachsenhausen was still marked by orchard meadows. Over here, the “Äppelwoi” has been invented, which does not only count since the TV show “Zum blauen Bock” to the epitome of the Hessian way of life. You ride comfortably along small streets, afterwards you join the painter’s quarter and reach the southern bank of the Main with its famous Museumsufer. Here are located among others the Städelsche art institute with its reputable annex and its notable temporary exhibitions, the Liebighaus as well as the Museum for applied art. Along the Holbeinsteg, you join the other bank of the Main and ride in the old town of Frankfurt. At the Römer, you can look through the royal road at the Frankfurter “Dome” (which is not a real dome), and the recently opended new old town, with its interesting mixture of historic recontructions of half-timbered houses and modern buildings. Only a few meters separate you from the cradle of the German democracy with the Pauls-church. Afterwards, you ride along the Großen Hirschgraben to the home of the family Goethe. This house is the place where Goethe was born and where he spent his youth. Goethe describes impressively this period of his life in his autobiography Poetry and Truth. In the 20th century, the green annular avenue has been edified on the former medieval line of defence. You ride along routes who are free of traffic through the heart of the city and join the New Opera and the Old Opera, where you can directly experience the Frankfurter skyline. A small detour leads you to the Frankfurt Stock Exchange with its popular photo motif of the bull and the bear. Back at the green annular avenue, you ride to the east of the city and join again the Main. The new landmark of the city resides directly in front of you: The new tower of the European Central Bank is the impressive counterpoint of the high-rise ensemble on the west side. On the foot of the listed former Wholesale Market Hall, which is now one of the buildings of the ECB, there is one of the current most popular bars of Frankfurt, located directly at the Main. The Oosten has a wonderful terrace with a magnificent view at the city. You ride along the elegant new bridge to the southern Main bank where you are going to make a small detour to the Gerbermühle. Anciently, it was the rebuilt summer resort of the banker family Willemer. In 1814/15, Goethe used to visit this place. He used the Willemer’s daughter as an inspiration for some of his pieces of work. Nowadays, the Gerbermühle is a popular tourist restaurant. Only a few meters by bike separate you from there to Sachsenhausen, the starting point of the tour. That is where the bike tour ends.
